Both partners must attend (unless seeking treatment as a single patient).
We ask that you arrive at least half an hour before the consultation to allow time for the completion of preliminary registration and paperwork. A semen analysis is included in the cost of your initial consultation. Private facilities are available for the male partner to produce a semen sample, and the results of this analysis by our embryologists will be discussed at the consultation. You are advised to abstain from sexual intercourse for 3-5 days prior to the consultation as this permits an optimum sample of sperm for analysis.
The initial consultation lasts approximately one hour.
This allows ample time for an in depth discussion of the medical histories and the implications of assisted reproduction with both partners. The most suitable treatment for you will be discussed in greater detail. Should you decide to proceed, treatment may commence as early as the woman's next menstrual cycle, or at a time that is convenient for both partners provided that screening (HIV, Hepatitis B and C) has been completed and the results available.
A ‘Disclosure of Information’ consent form must be completed so that we can keep your GP or hospital specialist fully informed of your proposed treatment and the eventual outcome.Following your initial consultation, when you are brimming with a wealth of new information both verbal and written, we cannot emphasise enough the importance of the Fertility Nurse Coordinators who are available to assist you with any questions or concerns that you may have.
