We recognise that Infertility imposes enormous emotional and psychological stress on individuals and couples. Difficulties encountered when trying to achieve a pregnancy can affect us in various ways. Feelings of anger, loss and isolation are certainly not uncommon.

Counselling can help you and your partner share these difficult feelings and experiences, and explore aspects of your life affected by your ongoing desire for a child. It may clarify areas of confusion and help you find new ways of coping with the situation.
Following the disappointment of unsuccessful treatment, counselling is available to help you work your way through the difficult feelings you may be experiencing. There is also a Patient Support group.

The HFEA has included the legal right for any individual undergoing fertility treatment to have the benefit of counselling: before, during and after treatment.
Counselling is mandatory prior to treatment for couples undertaking treatment that involves the use of donated eggs or sperm, especially in view of the short and long term implications of the treatment.

An appointment with an independent counsellor may be arranged by using the contact numbers available at the Essex Fertility Centre.

If treatment fails what happens next?
Following the disapointment of an unsuccessful treatment, we generally feel that you may benefit from a free follow up consultation which allows you the opportunity to discuss the previous attempt and to review your future situation.

A Fertility Counsellor is also available if you would prefer to discuss matters with someone not directly related to your treatment. The counselling service is free for unsuccessful patients.
